Submissions Open for Fantasy & Science Fiction

You've read the headline, now click the link: http://submissions.ccfinlay.com/fsf/submit/

Submissions are open until midnight, New York time, on January 14.

Go.

Submit something.

Blow my mind.

In case you missed the earlier announcement and are wondering "What's this...?"

Fantasy & Science Fiction was the first genre magazine I ever read and it was the first magazine of any kind to publish my short stories. So when Gordon Van Gelder asked me if I wanted to guest edit an issue, I said "Hell yes."

We settled on the July/August 2014 issue. Which is hardly no lead time at all for a print magazine, but I was excited to start reading. There was one condition: I wanted to take electronic submissions for the first time in F&SF's history, just to make it easier for writers to submit, especially writers who aren't in the United States.

Thus the link above.

You're welcome.

There is no special theme. I’m looking for great stories. The speculative element may be slight, but it should be present. I prefer character-oriented stories. Gordon says that Fantasy & Science Fiction generally receives a lot of fantasy fiction, but never enough science fiction or humor. I like science fiction. I like to laugh.

I also like to get excited, be amazed, learn things, feel things deeply and profoundly.

Speculative fiction is a big, inclusive genre. That's what I love about it.

For this submissions period, I will consider fiction up to 10,000 words in length. Stories should be attached as .doc or .rtf file. For the standard article on standard manuscript preparation, see the SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) websitewww.sfwa.org/2008/11/manuscript-preparation/.

Payment is 7-12 cents per word on acceptance. Fantasy & Science Fiction buys first North American and foreign serial rights and an option on anthology rights. All other rights are retained by the author.

All submissions will receive a response by the end of February.

Any questions can be directed my way @ccfinlay or on facebook. If you don't get an immediate response, be patient... I'll be reading!
